If you enjoy card games like Sushi Go but want something with a more refined look and deeper strategy, Omakase is a perfect choice. This elegant sushi-themed game combines stunning artwork with engaging gameplay that challenges players to collect sushi, complete menu sets, and carefully time their action cards. It offers a fresh twist on the conveyor belt mechanic, making each round exciting and unpredictable.

How to Play Omakase
Shuffle the deck. Deal one card to each player and place six cards face up in a row to form the conveyor belt, with the deck at one end and the trash pile at the other. On your turn you will draw one card, optionally play one action card, then exchange one card with the conveyor belt. Optionally you can now play an action card if you have not already, then move the belt.
The goal is to collect sets that form complete menu combinations, such as the 'Kid's Set' with Omelette, Tofu Skin, Cucumber Roll and Karaage. Each set scores points, but the real challenge lies in managing your hand and timing action cards that can swap players hand, double the value of your sushi or have other players discard cards.
If you have a completed set as you conclude your turn, you may call the check. Each other player then gets one final turn and you will move onto scoring. You will score for the Yen value of any set you have completed, plus the value of any individual cards you have. Most points wins!
The game supports 2 to 4 players and typically lasts around 30 minutes, making it ideal for casual game nights or quick sessions. Its rules are easy to learn but offer enough depth to keep experienced players engaged.
Why Omakase Is Great for Sushi Go Fans
If you like Sushi Go, you’ll appreciate how Omakase builds on similar mechanics but adds more elegance and complexity by having the players draft from the shared belt and use action cards to steal and swap hands. The art style is more sophisticated, and the gameplay encourages thoughtful planning rather than quick drafting alone. It’s a great way to deepen your appreciation for sushi-themed games while enjoying a fresh challenge.
Omakase also shines as a social game. The interaction between players through action cards creates lively moments and friendly competition. It’s perfect for groups who enjoy games that combine strategy with a bit of luck and surprise.
