The Grimm Forest is a lovely family strategy game accompanied by beautiful artwork and miniatures, and an easy-to-grasp fun concept. The gameplay can be broken into three steps: Hidden Movement, Resource Gathering, and House Building. First, secretly choose a Gather Location you are sending your Pig to this turn. If you end up alone, you get all the resources! However, if you find yourself at a location with another Pig, you’ll have to share. Outsmart your opponent to get a bigger share! You will use the gathered resources as building materials for your house. Then, play a Friend or Fable cards to change the outcome of the Gather cards – choose wisely! Bridge Troll, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin – every character will have their own special abilities that may provide a certain advantage. Finally, build Wood, Straw, or Brick Houses on your Player Board using collected resources. During the building process, Friends will come and give you a hand. You may accept their help, or strategically send them to help another player in order to discard their Friend! Ultimately, the first player to build three houses wins!
